Format Preservation Benchmark
Intro (Answer‑first)
We run a repeatable layout‑fidelity benchmark on real documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to verify that translated files keep tables, images, spacing, and page breaks intact.
Why this matters
- A perfect translation is useless if the layout breaks.
- Reformatting is the hidden cost of document translation.
- We measure layout preservation so you don’t have to guess.
Methodology (simple + transparent)
- Select representative files: invoices, tables, manuals, slide decks, and multi‑column PDFs.
- Translate with Trexlator using the same language pair across tests.
- Compare side‑by‑side using a checklist of layout elements.
- Score each file and report the average by file type.
Layout Fidelity Checklist
- Tables: rows, columns, borders, alignment
- Images: position, size, wrapping
- Fonts: size, weight, line height
- Spacing: margins, padding, line breaks
- Page breaks: pagination consistency
- Charts: labels, axes, legends
- Headers/footers: alignment and content
What we publish
- A short summary score per file type
- 2–3 annotated before/after screenshots
- Known edge cases (scanned PDFs, heavy graphics)
Limitations
We optimize for format fidelity, but complex scanned PDFs can still require manual review.
